Three days around Kanab to give you two shots at the world's most famous sandstone — and a great plan B.

Only 64 people a day may walk to the Wave, chosen by lottery. We enter the advance online lottery for you months ahead and, if it does not draw, the daily lottery the evening before each hiking day. Two draws give most groups a real chance.
If neither draw works, we switch to Coyote Buttes South or White Pocket, which are just as strange and far emptier, and refund the price difference. The hike itself is 6.4 miles on open slickrock with no trail and no shade, so we start at first light.
Itinerary
Hour by hour.
Briefing, gear check, then a warm-up walk through the Wire Pass slot. Daily lottery in the evening if needed.
Navigation by landmark to the Wave, Second Wave and the Melody Arch. Lunch in the shade of a buttress.
If you already saw the Wave, we drive the sand road to White Pocket, a field of cauliflower-shaped rock. Back in Kanab by 4 pm.
