A sand spit closes a shallow lagoon on the Red Sea. The desert heats up, the thermal wind comes in, and it keeps its promise nearly every afternoon, all year round.
When Europe turns grey we move the camp here — four hours of flight, no jet lag, and snorkelling on the reef on rest days.
The camp is a low house on the lagoon with a terrace facing the water. Kites are pumped on the sand in front, and the reef starts a ten-minute walk up the coast.
Thermal wind is lazy in the morning and strong in the afternoon, so the calm hours go to theory and the reef.
Wind window, kite size and the plan for your session, drawn on the board by the pool.
Snorkel the reef, sleep, or practise body drag in the shallow corner of the lagoon.
The thermal wind fills in and the lagoon comes alive — your longest stretch on the water.
Footage from the day on the terrace, with the mountains turning pink behind the screen.
