The headland at Big Sur is solid granite under a metre of soil. We anchored the house with twelve steel piles, each drilled eight metres into the rock.
The wind can reach 160 km/h. The west façade is thick concrete; the glass faces south and east, protected by the house itself.
Materials arrived by barge and were lifted by crane. It took two winters. It will stand for two centuries.
