All our timber is kiln-dried to eight per cent and rests in the workshop for at least three weeks before it is cut. That wait is the difference between a table that stays flat and one that does not.
White oak
The default, and what two thirds of orders are made from. Hard, open-grained, forgiving of daily life. Darkens slightly and evenly over the first two years.

Lighter and more elastic, which is why every steam-bent part we make is ash. Takes a lime wash better than oak and stays pale for years.

Natural oil
Hardwax oil, three coats, cured for five days. Repairable in patches: sand the mark, rub oil in, done. Needs re-oiling roughly once a year.

Ammonia reacts with the tannin in oak and darkens it through the whole thickness, not just the surface. A scratch shows the same colour underneath.

White pigment pressed into the open grain, then oiled over. Keeps ash pale in rooms that get a lot of afternoon sun.

Iron acetate, not paint. The grain stays visible through it, and the surface still feels like wood rather than plastic.

Walnut for a family dining table with small children: it is the softest of the three and marks easily. Blackened finish in a room with underfloor heating and no humidity control. And any top over 320 cm in a single slab, which we simply cannot source honestly.
We would rather lose the order than send something that will disappoint you in the third year.
